Enriching the lives of youth, by providing quality training focusing on dance, singing, and acting technique.

Why is Overture different?

Overture is geared towards musical theatre students who want to improve their skills and technique while still having opportunities to perform. Unlike traditional dance studios, which are focused on competition and recitals and students have to make a difficult choice to either train year-round or participate in productions, Overture allows students to train and perform simultaneously.

Dance

  • Ballet is the foundation of dance. This course will introduce students to ballet, its technique, history and artistry. Ballet builds strength, articulation and expression, shape and story through the body.

  • Tap dance fundamentals will involve technique, rhythm and combinations of basic steps to create choreography and story.

  • Jazz dance, specifically musical theatre jazz, takes the technique and strength of ballet and adds story and style with the songs of music theatre. Classes will explore style of different choreographers and the fundamental steps used in shows, auditions and choreography.

Acting

  • Each month will include receiving audition materials, including audition vocal selections and two contrasting monologues. For three weeks, we will research the characters, shows and history that impacts the performance of the audition material, followed by dance audition practice. The last week of the month will be a mock audition with local professional adjudicators.

  • Elementary Triple Threat will include singing, dancing and acting into one introductory class.

  • Course on the vocal and acting aspects of performing a song. New audition cuts will be assigned each month. We will research each song, show and character to impact our story-telling through song.

  • Vocal Technique for healthy singing is combined with repertoire of golden age musical theatre, pop standards, and modern/contemporary music theatre selections.
